EDMI, a global leader in smart meter technology, needed a workspace that matched their innovation and efficiency. With their New Zealand subsidiary looking for a new home, they turned to Catalyst for expert workplace consulting.
Our journey with EDMI began by developing a tailored design brief, ensuring their future office would support both their people and business goals. We explored multiple location options, providing test-fit layouts for two potential sites before EDMI selected 100 Taranaki Street in Wellington as their ideal space.
Following a competitive pitch, Catalyst was chosen as EDMI’s Design & Build partner, providing an end-to-end solution. Acting as a single point of contact, we seamlessly managed design, project management, and construction, ensuring a smooth transition into their new premises. To complete the space, we also designed and procured modern office and meeting furniture, creating a functional and inspiring environment for EDMI’s team.
The project faced tight construction timeframes, adding an extra layer of complexity. We had to balance speed and quality, ensuring the space was ready for EDMI’s team without compromising the design integrity or functionality.
The design needed to balance collaboration and individual focus. We created an environment where EDMI’s team could easily collaborate yet have quiet, dedicated spaces for the precision engineering work that defines their business. Routing power, data services, and installing new mechanical heating and ventilation systems proved difficult, as the original infrastructure wasn’t suited for office use. To address this, we worked closely with a local lighting company to design an energy-efficient lighting solution that complemented the space’s unique aesthetic.
A key focus of the project was the design of the Server Room and the adjacent Calibration Room. Ensuring these rooms met the high standards for services provision, design, and construction was critical to the success of the project.
Ultimately, the project’s success came down to the strong collaboration between Catalyst and EDMI, with constant communication ensuring every detail was executed to perfection, all within a challenging timeframe.
