The New Kaukapakapa Village Building: A Modern Take on Traditional Architecture
This is a newly constructed building located in the Kaukapakapa Village, which is currently being developed by Kaukapakapa Centre Village Company Ltd. The building features a modern vernacular architecture, using traditional building materials to reflect the local community while showcasing the vibrant and upcoming future of the community through its modern shape and form.
The Colorsteel pitched roof finishes, along with the exposed roof trusses made from Macrocarpa and treated pine, extend above a spacious deck that overlooks pedestrians entering the village from all walks of life. The glass balustrade visually connects the inside and outside of the building, adding to the overall aesthetics of the apartment level. The deck also enhances better flow internally and externally within the building.
Rusticated and shiplap weatherboard external claddings give the building a warm and welcoming feel to visitors approaching the ground floor level, which houses retail shops such as Gull Service Station, BlackBull Liquor shop & Crow Real Estate that service the local community. A retractable fabric awning canopy provides shelter and shield for visitors while contrasting with the traditional timber cladding appearance.
In conclusion, Catalyst is proud to present this prestigious building as a part of the Kaukapakapa Village. Thanks to the property owner's support, this became possible despite facing many hurdles in the form of local council building consent and resource consent approvals.
