Catalyst was engaged to design new office buildings for tenants, the Ministry of Social Development and Oranga Tamariki, in Te Awamutu. The design was for two single-storey interconnected buildings with shared amenities but separate entrances and a basement car park.
This required both entrances to be strategically placed to provide an accessible front entrance from the footpath without the use of a ramp and having the same floor level internally. Good use was made of the sloping site by creating a partially excavated basement. Sun louvres were used at the front and rear of the building to help provide sun shade while letting the light penetrate through the large window openings. Catalyst provided architecture, design and project management services for the 18162m site and both the client and tenants are extremely pleased with their new work spaces.
